Sean Mihaly Week 6: Ring

I took a different approach this week in my model design. Assigned with the task of creating a ring, I contemplated on how I could spice up my model. Initially I was thinking of creating a multi-finger ring, which would essentially be a ring that bridges across two or more fingers. This made me think of the design of a set of brass knuckles which is basically the weaponized version of a ring, or set of rings.

I was able to create this form by using curves to create the shape of the knuckles, extruding it, and capping the ends. I split out the finger holes and center hole, then filleted the edges. I created the diamonds with a series of curve-derived surfaces, then used ArraySrf in order to place them around the knuckles. From there, I was able to make the setting by boolean-ing the diamonds away from the knuckles, and using simple curves to create pipes.

In order to stick with the theme of a ring, I decided that these brass knuckles would be more than just any brass knuckles. They would be the brass knuckles that you'd see at Kay Jewelers... if they sold illegal weapons. I adorned my knuckles with 21 set diamonds on a band made of dark polished titanium, with a feature band of layered gold trimmed titanium. If you are planning on proposing to your special someone, consider the Right in The Kisser Engagement Knuckles. It says more than just "I love you", it also says "I trust you enough to arm you with a deadly weapon, for better or for worse." It is the perfect marriage of function and form!
