Another thing I didn't have a chance to ask in class... What is causing the weird spike in the claw?? Filleting? I have been playing with that edge forevsssss trying to fix it by changing fillet radius.
First, make sure your extrusion curve is joined and closed. extrude the curve with the solid option checked. Usually the problem that i see in your image is caused by a fillet size that is too large, especially considering that both sides of the hammer are being filleted. reduce your fillet width until this problem disappears. note that your shape has to be closed before you fillet it. that shouls work.
