Quinn Baldacci: Week 3 Hammer
I decided to continue with the toy theme I had for the duck. I made the head of the hammer a squeaky toy and added a rattle to it. I used bright plastics in keyshot.
I have no idea where that naked edge is coming from. Short of rebuilding my hammer I've tried everything to get rid of it. I would have just rebuilt it but I ran out of time.
EDIT:
I went back and reworked my hammer. The naked edges left are from bad fillets on the handle that I don't have time to fix unfortunately.
Tim Hardin: Week 3 Hammer
This Hammer was inspired by a nickname for a baseball great, Hank Aaron, also known as "Hammerin' Hank." This influenced me to do a sports themed hammer, and I found that it was quite easy to integrate two of the most important tools in the sport, the baseball and the bat.
I created a lot of curves before I found one that seemed like a fitting bat shape, and then revolved it to make the bat. To create the seams on the baseball and handle on the bat, i had to project curves onto their respective shapes and then piped those curves. For the divots in the head of the hammer, I created a polar array of cylinders around the object and then used a boolean difference to subtract them from the shape.
To make it seem as authentic as possible, I tried to find the most accurate brown paint for the handle as well as an accurate red for the seams of the ball. I used a black metal for the hammer head and claw to show that although the user might be celebrating Americas past time, they mean business and their hammer is the real deal.

Most hammers are made with a bias towards men so I wanted to create one that would stand out for women. A typical stereotype is that women don't own tools and instead use the next best thing...a heel. I thought this might be the type of hammer a woman would pick out for herself as it embraces the sexier side of hardware.
To achieve the shape of the heel I created curves and then extruded them. I used a little boolean difference and union to connect the shapes and make cut-outs on the handle. For the grip line on the handle, I used the project and pipe workflow.
My color choices are based on the Christian Louboutin "red-bottom" heels. I think the red and black make the hammer less girly and more appealing to a wider range of women.

As for personal view, I found the Hammer Project introduces a whole new perspective of how designers need to be versatile. For the hammer, it was pretty set to basic design, although I came with a handle grip, more like a cushion to rest the plan of the hand once the device is being used.
My design was mostly influence by own use of the hammer. So, for me most of the times my hand would get tired, in that matter I included the soft ball cushion to give it a more pleasant hold for the consumer. Now, the hammer itself, is the same basic material design as just like any other hammer with its metal head. Here to underline my brand I mark its model name X-Gpro
Finally to come up with the final piece, the most common uses include: revolve, lofting, much fillet, Boolean(difference, union, two objects, and lines.

For this week, we had to model a Toy Hammer. I changed my design three times because I was very insecure of each and they were not a toy, they looked more like a killing device. However, I focus on creating a model based on those little girls that prefer to play with tools rather than dolls. I wanted to keep the feminine aspect by using a pink and red color palette.
When I imported the file in KeyShot I decided to play around with a pink and red color palette within the plastic materials. Not only I used pink and red, but I also added transparent and grey plastic so it wouldn't look so monochromatic.
Some new commands I used to create this model were: Sweep2, Project, Pipe, ExtrudeCrv, FilletEdge. Regarding the FilletEdge commands, I couldn't fish a couple of naked edges. The first time I typed in the command it show 908 naked edges. I selected the whole design and used cap and join. I used JoinEdge to fix a couple however I still have some naked edges that I do not know how to fix yet.

Sarah Zambrana: Week 3 Hammer
I wanted to create a typical household hammer but with some small tweaks. The design of this hammer has smoother transitions from material to material. Plus instead of the base of the hammer head being circular, I decided to make it more rectangular so it can be able reach into corners better. The tools I used the most are the filleting tool and also the projection tool in order cut out some of the shapes that were needed.

For my hammer, I wanted to consider ergonomic forms the same way I did in my mouse. I thought of what might be comfortable and the different ways one can hold a hammer. This design allows several distinct ways of using the hammer. In modeling, I kept in mind the order of filleting while building the object. I was able to reduce my frustration and amount of time fixated on correcting naked edges by doing so. I used the FilletEdge tool most in creating this model.

For this project, I first thought about myself. If I were to be shopping for a new hammer, what would I look for. The first thing that came to mind, was sturdy construction. For my design, I didn't want anything over complicated or over designed. Simple, and effective. Then I thought about how my hammer could be different. The hatchet blade on the back, turns this household staple, into a survival tool. Modeling this hammer was harder then I expected. Trying to form a sharp blade was a challenge. I also spent a long time trying to get the filleting right. In the end I used the project, and trim commands a lot to trim down the head. When I got into Keyshot I wanted to keep the simple Design, using only a few materials. I only used two colors of steel in the head, a solid plastic shaft, and a rubber grip.

UPDATE: Changed material assignment for Hammer head from Aluminum to Soft Touch. Also changed lighting in Keyshot and gave the Hammer a name that would be more appealing to the younger target market.
For the toy hammer assignment, I modeled my hammer as a simple kids toy rendering the object with aluminum and hard plastic in bright colors. I wanted to keep the design basic because most toy hammers and basic hammers aren't extremely complex, but they are still functional and appealing aesthetically. While working in Rhino, I used the boolean difference and fillet edges command to create a smooth, connected object. I adjusted lighting in keyshot accordingly to show the light reflections on the hammer as well as having the scene dark enough to show the material of the hammer without the view becoming too bright.

Nick Tourville: Week 3 Hammer
My Rescue Hammer was designed for breaking glass in emergency situations. The back end has a large point for scoring glass, and the front has several sharp tips for breaking. The handle has a small cover over it to protect the user's hand. The head of the hammer is bright so that it can be easily found.
Andrea Young: Week 3 Hammer
Simplicity is one of the greatest designs. I created a hammer with sleek flowing edges and a design that hints at a traditional style. Using the past as inspiration, I did not veer far from the typical design with the leather handle grip and steel head. I spiced it up with a bright blue neck; it says, "I am practical but I am not your average craftsman."

For the hammer I was inspired by the idea of transforming the hammer from a heavy looking industrial tool into a light and playful kids toy. To create the hammer I used Loft for the head along with boolean 2 object, rebuild and boolean difference. Once the hammer was created I used chamfer and fillet to round off all the edges. Some edges I chose to round off more than others to still keep a basic feel of a real hammer. In Keyshot I added lots of different clear plastic colors to give the hammer a interesting look when light hit it. The clear plastics refract the light as it comes in and gives the hammer a playful feel. I also added a rubber grip on the back so that the hammer does not slip out of a child's hand as easily.

Ceci Michelena: Week 3 Hammer.
This hammer was designed to be a go-to everyday hammer. It's easy to use with a comfortable grip and it's lightweight.
To make this hammer, I followed the tutorial and laid out boxes for proportions and mostly used curves to create surfaces, extrusions, and, for the head, the revolve tool.
I used metal for the head, plastic for the handle (to make it light weight), and a rubber grip with ridges (for grip).
