Elee Holtermann Ring

For my ring project I wanted to make a simplistic overall shape but still take advantage of the 3D printers capability with complex form. This ring is essentially a double finger ring, it goes fully around your first finger and goes on top of your second finger. This form gives an interesting look from the top when being worn. The inspiration for this piece comes form a helix which has a similar complex feature to it and looks like its spiraling upward.
In rhino some of the commands I was using was the revolve tool to create the side parts of the ring. The array polar tool to get the slanted sections to go around the entire piece in the center section. Sweep 1 and 2 to create some of my more complex surfaces. Finally pipe split and blend to fillet my edges which ended up being a nightmare trying to keep clean edges.
For materials on my ring I came to realize that doing silver or gold the light was bouncing around way too much and it became hard to see my design so I used turned steel which gave it a nice look with and interesting matte texture. This was a good choice because I think I'm going to get this piece printed in steel by shapeways so It's good to see that I like how that metal looks with this ring.
