Meghan Preiss : Week 4 : Detergent Bottle
My detergent bottle was inspired by the Jetsons television show that aired in the 1960's to the late 1980's. I wanted it to be futuristic yet have a fun appeal. I wanted it to have a deep offset surface because I believe this adds to the futuristic feel. I also created a two step top to the bottle to create a different curve to the bottle.
To create my bottle I started with simple curves and then used a sweep2 to create the shape. I created a curve and extruded it then boolean differenced for the handle. I also created two curves and trimed the inside and then sweep2 to create the offset surface. I filleted every edge. To create the cap I used helix and boolean difference.
My materials were all hard plastics. I chose to use a rough gray for the main part of the bottle.I chose to use two different colors for the main pops of color to show that this brand comes in different scents/kinds of detergent. I used hard rough red and hard rough lime green to create a fun pop of color. In addition, to extend the pop of color I used a hard shiny tangerine and a hard shiny deep cer. I am really pleased with my color choices and how my bottles turned out.

My detergent bottle was purposed to be held by the entire hand reaching through the bottle instead of clumsily holding it by the side. I wanted to create a bottle that could hold as much detergent, of not more, than any other detergent bottle but would allow for maximum stability as well. I created offset surfaces in both the bottom and the side where there would be a logo. I actually used offset surface to make the bottle have thickness instead of just being a surface. It is thin but can easily hold liquid. I also wanted to make the cap as ergonomic as I could so I made the curves of the bottle cap blend with those of the bottle itself.
To make my detergent bottle, I used many different techniques and actions. To create the original form of the bottle, I used curve and sweep2. To create the details I used the split, trim, blend, sweep2 and filletEdge. As for the offset surfaces, I used split, offsetsrf, and blendsrf. I also employed the join edges command quite a bit. To create my bottle cap and thread, I used cylindar, helix, orient perpendicular to curve, sweep1, scale1D and 2D, fillet edge, and trim.

For the hand sleeve, the label area (offset surface), and the cap, I used a clear, shiny, dark gray plastic. Finally, I used a light gray for the curved edges and the threaded top.

For this weeks assignment I created a large detergent bottle. I wanted to create a larger bottle because of the convenience of not having to purchase detergent as often. This will also enable households that do a lot of laundry to more from the same purchase rather than buying lots of smaller boxes or bottles of detergent.
To create this bottle I used many different commands. To create the basic form I used Curve, PolyLine, and Sweep2. Then, to add the details, I used commands like Offset, Scale1D, BlendSRF, FilletEdge, Pipe, Cylinder, Orient Perpendicular to Surface, BooleanUnion and BooleanDifference just to name a few.
In KeyShot I used a teal hard rough plastic for the majority of the bottle. However, I used a blue clear smooth plastic for the offset surface so that you can see into the bottle, and there will also be a label present on the transparent surface.
