Allie Agrella; Week 10 Rain Boots








For my design aesthetics, I wanted a sleek exterior that would mimic the qualities of rubber. The rain boot would ideally be a very flexible, thin material that isn't too obtrusive during a round of golf. I also included golf cleats on the bottom of the shoes that are similar to those on regular golf shoes.
I had trouble with the Network surface, so I relied on Sweep2 for a lot of my surfaces. I enjoyed this project, and the freedom we had to choose our design influence.

Allie Agrella; Week 8; Tubular Chair Design

For my chair design, I wanted create a bench that could be put in a public place, possibly a park or outdoor space. Accordingly, I chose marble in Keyshot so that it would weather well. The bench can be sat on from all sides, and has several small foot stools that are optional. During my trials, I learned how much you can create with a simple pipe. There are so many different ways to makes shapes in Rhino, but this technique seems to be one of the most easily manipulated and fitted to the design of a chair. Although simple in most respects, I had to adapt my design to be something I could keep rounded and not create pipes too hash of difficult to curve around points.

Allie Agrella, week 7: Lamp Design





For my lamp design, I wanted to make a dynamic shape that was fun and playful. This lamp is designed to either sit on a desk or be hung, depending on user preference. I used to poly-line tool then revolved it to create my shape, then the sections for he dividing parts. During this project I realized how simply you can make a really interesting shape, and how to transform that into an actual product. I enjoyed making my lamp design because there were almost no limitations.

Christian McKenzie - week 7: Lamp







When thinking of radial patters I immediately visualize fruit, watches, and mechanical components. I looked to these things to guide me in my design. I chose a strawberry and a sprocket. I added a perforated pattern as strawberries have seeds on the exterior, to keep the mechanical aspect I made these cutouts round. I came up with a basic gear design and filleted the edges in order to keep the organic properties of a fruit.

In Rhino I used the curve tools to make my horizontal intersections. I measured my hand and devised an interior circumference that seemed I could fit my hand into fit my hand into.  I made the curves into surfaces using the planar curve command in the surface menu. I made the outer curves of the vertical sections by using the horizontal layer for guidelines drawing in the front view. I used offset curve, array, and curve Boolean to make the perforation. I then used the polar array and planar curves to make my vertical intersections. I used pipes and split in order to make the notches in the sections.

In Key shot I chose wood for the vertical sections, I tried to enhance it by adding a bump pattern and making adjustments various adjustments mostly to the contrast, scale of the pattern. Wood has an organic warmth that this more mechanically arrangement needs. I then used a metallic paint on the horizontal sections. The metallic material as an accent puts more emphasis on the interior forms. Without the Metallic, the horizontal layers become easily interpreted as a cylindrical visual mass, or a heavy base, in the rest of the design.

Allie Agrella; Week 6, Ring Design






This project was the first that I really felt I was able to control my fillets and edges well. I focused first on the construction being solid, and then moved on to aesthetics. I used piped curves, booleaned, for the smaller rings, and a tube with offset extrusions for the base piece. For my actual ring design, I created a ring that has separate detachable smaller rings based off a traditional 'spinning' ring.
Ancient generations wearing spinner rings reduced their tension levels and anxiety in the human being. Several researches revealed that "playing" with Spinning-Ring band in repetitive motion helps to calm the mind. For that reason sometimes spinner rings (spinning rings) are referred to as worry rings, turn rings, swivel rings, turning rings, prayer rings or motion rings.

Allie Agrella; Week 5, Sunglasses




My concept is a protective pair of glasses attached to rubber ear plugs for individuals who are looking for convenience at a gun range, or even out practicing on their own. These glasses make taking precautions second nature and makes safety more practical. Instead of having to remember a big pair of ear covers and glasses, the two are combined in a modern style. During this project, I grew immensely and learned how to use actual drawings to model. Accordingly, this was most likely my favorite project, as we were able to use a concept sketch that was completely our own.

Allie Agrella: Week 4, USB Port



 The creation of the USB proved to be a trying journey. I had no issues following the tutorial until it came time for the fillets. Besides my few hiccups, I learned about a new way to create shapes, and expanded the techniques I use when modeling. The most influential in my design would have had to have been the Sweep2 as with the detergent bottle.

During this tutorial, I adopted a trial and error technique. One set back was that I had difficulty filleting my edges after using the sweep 2. I learned as I went, and enjoyed playing with more organic shapes in the rounded bottle and lid.
