Billy Nisbet: Week 5 Sunglasses






 The inspiration for the RAY-RAY'S sunglasses was to emit more "rays" around the edges of the frame. By changing proportions of the frame and changing its materiality, I was seeking to make ray-ban-like sunglasses that could emit more light around the edge of the frame, making it both visually lighter, and lighter in weight.

The processes i used most to produce these forms were control point curves to clean up my orthographic drawings. Control points on was helpful in refining such lines. Curve from 2 views is a very powerful tool and was very helpful in creating the frame. For the lenses I created a large sphere and placed it at the correct angle to be a lens, I then split the sphere by the frame and deleted the extraneous surfaces. Boolean processes and filleting were used to clean up final shapes.

For materials I used a dark plastic for the sunglasses arms, and a grey-shaded front-frame. The lighter frame on the front is meant to emit a little more light than a traditional pair, so a beautiful day does not just appear overcast while wearing them.

Sarah Brodsky Week 5: The Star Sunglasses

The concept of this design is to have available a fun and flattering pair of sunglasses. These are fashionable glasses that give away to the unattractive middle bar in between your nose. These glasses are secure to your face and can even boast as an effective sport sunglass. I wanted to design something attractive and classic looking.

I traced my object after using the PictureFrame command. To trace I used tools like the control point curve and then used sweep2 to create the wrap around headpiece. To create the glass part I extruded the traced shape of the star from my sketch. Then I used the cap planar hole command to create a surface for the glass. I then copied the made star to create an identical shape. I placed the pieces together and joined them to create a solid form from my design.

The Materials I chose to use are a purple tinted glass and a carved bronze. The bronze makes the sunglasses appear to be expensive looking however are made of brass which makes this an affordable product. This piece was made for the thrifty and stylish fashionista.

I designed these sunglasses with my youngest nephew in mind. I wanted to deviate from making them too girly. I came up with the brand name because they favor crickets.

After importing my sketches into Rhino, I drew curves onto them. I, then, did a series of extrusions, blends, sweep 2s, and lofts to achieve the completed look. Boolean union was my final step to seal the frames together.

These sunglasses are intended to be completely customizable.The materials that I used ranged from wooden to plastic, or even gemstone frames. The lens are all plastic. Your preppy Boy Scout will love these sunglasses!

My inspiration for these sunglasses lie in many places.  The lens shape from none other than Tom Ford.  I like the look of odd sunglasses, so I took inspiration from Chanel and Prada for the shape.  The time period I took design cues from would definitely be the 1960s.  I decided to make them a pair of hands that seem like they are presenting something precious for the wearer to look through.  I enjoyed the designing process, since these sunglasses are not what you typically see walking down the street.

I used several basic modeling techniques to get the final form.  For the lens I simply built off of a circle.  I made the loft curves in the side and top windows and lofted the dome shape.  The frames are an extruded polycurve that I split in half and then mirrored before rejoining to make them symmetrical.  All the edges where either chamfered or filleted.  I then used offset surface with solid selected to finish the one and mirror it to copy it.  The hands are a combination of piped curves and booleaned ellipsoids.  I would draw the curve in side view and then transform them to look like I wanted.  I then piped them and filleted the fingertips.  The ear hooks are also an extruded polycurve.  I then used boolean union to join all the solids.

When I rendered these I chose to go the practical route.  I chose black plastic for the hands because I want them to look almost silhouette-esque.  I chose a stark contrast form the frame color for that sole reason, I wanted contrast to emphasize the look that the hands are "presenting" them for the wearer.  The lens are orange because that color is bright and fits with the 1960s palette.  I added J-Lo as a model to show scale and give a better impression of the final product.

Reed Herne Week 5: Sunglasses (Storm Goggles)




When I first approached this project I was compelled by the idea of making glasses modeled after ski goggles.  The Storm Goggles are sleek shades that are both comfortable and protective. A wide lens allows for greater visibility as well as protection from the elements. Keeping with their name the Storm Goggles are designed to protect the active consumer from any natural deterrents of their outdoor activities.

For this project the main tools I used were "curve from two views" and "sweep2". I also made use of mirror, extrude, project, trim, fillet edge, join edge, cap planar holes and boolean union. Using the bitmaps from the picture frame command I was able to easily draw the curves necessary for my design. However, once my initial curves were drawn I had no use for the reference images. 

For the materials of this design I chose a mostly black color scheme to reinforce the mentality of durability and protection. I accented the goggles with Yellow, a color usually associated with warning or caution. The lightning bolt logo on the side was made a darker orange to contrast with the other materials while remaining a color associated with danger.

When designing my sunglasses, I did not have anything specific in mind. I just designed something that had many details I admired about sunglasses in general. But after rendering my design, it reminded me of a cobra or a rattlesnake so I decided to name them Snake Shades.

In the design process in Rhino, I started by putting in my scanned drawings and drawing over them with curves. I then created a "bent" curve in the top view that I extruded down as a surface, and Crv2View my frame/lens curves so that they were against that surface. From there I split and extruded that using extrude surface straight. For the sides of the sunglasses I did the same thing I just did not use Crv2View and instead rotated them in slightly. I also filleted my edges and used Boolean Difference for the diamond cutouts I included. I also used Boolean Union to join the entire frame together.

In KeyShot I chose to use basic materials found on most sunglasses. I chose a shiny black plastic for the frame and a clear yellow-ish plastic for the lens. I chose the black plastic for the frame because I like classic plastic sunglasses and I feel it would be the best material to use. I chose the yellow clear plastic for the lenses because the color reminds me of snake eyes and I felt it matched the theme well.

For my inspiration, I based much of my design from the classic Ray Bans, but I gave it a nice modern twist.The hinges are magnetic, allowing for the sides to easily snap on or off, allowing customers to change and personalize their earpieces, with custom designs and colors. 

For the techniques I used, I used a combination of Curves and Crv2Views to model the sunglasses more accurately. That, combined with Bend for the Earpieces, FilletEdges, Split, Trim, Patch, ExtrudeSrf, and rotate, I managed to achieve the overall effect.

For my material choices, I used hard shiny plastics of varying color for the sides, and a black shiny plasti for the frame. I then used Aluminum for the accents and the hinges, and a glass for the lenses

For this project I was inspired by my favorite pair of sunglasses that I have owned for years and got for free. I like the more bulky style and decided to make these more of a feminine style in comparison to my racing style sunglasses. I really did struggle with this design in the modeling as all of the edges presented new problems when trying to round them using fillet or pipe and eventually I just had to do it by hand.

To create these sunglasses I uploaded the images then created Lines that matched my drawings. I then extruded them into planes then into polysurfaces before booleandifferencing them to create the details. I then created the glass for them before going and working on the fillets. To do the fillets I used fillet, pipe with a booleandifference then network surface, and also had to hand create some edges by creating a curve and then split the plane in which it sat upon before networking the curve in. I created the gem then booleandifferenced it into the frame before then going back and creating pipes on the outward edge to then create a filleted edge.

For materials I chose a dark glass for the glass part. I then chose a clear blue plastic for the gem then edited the material to get the proper refraction needed. I then chose a shiny blue plastic for the frame and edited the refraction and colors to make it see-through with a green tint to the plastic to accent the blue and make sure the color was not one solid boring color.

For my sunglasses design, i was inspired by the transitional Chinese glasses but I am not create a similarity theme.  I tried to keep its particular perception and its character and have a combination with modern style design- the side of the glasses, using strange, clear line shape.

To create this sunglasses on Rhino, I started to develop the idea by free hand drawing, and make arrangement in Photoshop then used 'pictureframe' to import drawings into rhino in three sections, used extend curve to create a solid from a planar surface and used mirror to built up the glasses overall looks like. Also, I used lots of 'pipe', 'FilleEdge', 'Sweep2' and 'Trim', there are also an amazing command called ' Flow'.

For the materials, I choose glossy, silver to be the main medium, and also a smooth plastic decoration on each side.
