Nick Tourville- Week 8 Chair
The Deox chair design is based on DNA. It is a simplistic design meant to be used as a coffee table chair. The center cushion is removable and straps to the bottom of the chair.
My modeling process began with drawing the curves of the frame and legs and manipulating the control points. I then used Grasshopper to pipe the curves. This process was then repeated for the cross bars. The cushion is a manipulated surface the was extruded and filleted.
For materials, I knew I wanted a metallic body for the chair. After trying an entirely chrome body, I decided that black chrome for the frame and legs had a more accented look. The cushion has a custom red velvet texture.

Nick Tourville- Week 7 Lamp
As can be assumed from the title, my lamp was inspired by a comet shooting crashing the atmosphere. I created a bulbous bottom and extended, pointed tips and added a tilt to really emphasize this inspiration. There's a higher concentration of contour pieces towards the bottom to to block out light towards the actual "comet" of the lamp, leaving the "tail" to be the more greatly lit up area.
During the modeling process, I mostly followed the instructed steps of contouring and sectioning my basic shape, piping my intersections, and splitting the pipes and sections and contours. However, I used control point to give extra shape to my sections and, after tilting my entire form using the gumball, used a straight line to trim my form to create a flat bottom. The lasercutting layout was created using the BetterMassiveUnroll script, and thanks to some early scaling, there were no problems getting the parts to fit in a 48x24in box. After all my piping was complete, I extruded my contour and section surfaced from both sides to ensure a uniform look for the Keyshot model. I also added a wire and bulb for the Keyshot model.
I chose a smooth Oak material for the contours of the lamp. The sections are a Red Oak to represent the fiery tail of the comet. The actual lasercut lamp will be made of a red-tinted plywood. I chose a warm lighting to compliment my woods for the lit keyshot image, and the wire is a soft plastic.

Nick Tourville- Week 5 Tune-Ups Glasses
When first brainstorming for this design, I thought about the glasses I use. One of the pairs of glasses I wear most often are my SCAD Drumline shades, and from there I though about how they could be given extra function. When practicing with the Drumline, we commonly have the problem of needing a drum key but not having on with us at the practice field. So, I put a drum key on each side of this pair of the Tune-Ups shades. The key is as narrow and short as possible to both function but not get in the way.
When constructing the Tune-Ups, I first set up and aligned my background bitmaps using Picture Frame. I then drew a curve around the lens, extruded it, and piped around it. I made a series of boxes matching the general size of the sides and then used Trim to get them to the right shape. The Bend tool came in handy for shaping the lens, frame, and sides. Attaching and detailing (around the screw and hinge) were done with Boolean Union and Difference.
The main frame of the shades is chrome, the lenses are some glass tinted slightly blue, and the key and screws are aluminum. To create soft tips for the sides, I used a mold-tech. Finally, I used a soft touch material for the nose rests.

Nick Tourville- Week 4 Detergent Bottle
My detergent bottle is straight-forward, efficient form based on the video tutorial. The handle, however, has been given finger grooves and has been reduced in thickness to allow for easier gripping. Offsets have been added to the side and bottom, and a logo was added to each side. In this design, I focused on using sweeps, splits, and offsets.
Nick Tourville- Week 4 USB
My USB design mostly followed the tutorial. However, I gave the design a small twist. I have recently had the problem of forgetting my flashdrive in the computer lab. So, I added a car or house key the to end to add a greater personal value to the drive. My combining to necessary objects, the design has an object the user cannot afford to let slip their mind. There is also a small speaker that makes a sound when the user logs off a computer, and a light that turns on when the USB is plugged in and active. The offset tool was especially helpful in this design.
