Andres Poch: Week 10 Scan

For this project Isabella and I decided to scan a 3D foam model of a hammer head. We got this from a friend who is taking Model and Prototype class. We scanned it and then imported it into rhino with a tight mesh and then I added the handle using curves and then extruded them. For the modeling of the hammer I wanted to create a playful design that could work for Home Depot's #Let's Do This Campaign. The main design consideration was to use a minimum amount of materials to make it cheap to make, but make it look good as advertising.

Andres Poch: Week 10 Camera

OKO is a scuba diving camera that has been specially designed for marine biology photographers. Its round shape and whole in the side makes it easy to hold when being underwater to have a perfect steady shot. Also the round shape not only allows easier grip, but along with the yellow color it feels less intrusive than the square shaped cameras in the marine environment.

To create this camera I started with by creating an ellipsoid for the basic shape. Then I boolean difference the whole of the camera to create a place for easy grip and to create the screen and the Flash. After that I created more ellipsoids to work as grips of rubber around the camera. Then with a sequence of cylinders I created the camera lens. Finally, I blended all of the surfaces to create a whole solid with no angled edges.

For the materials I used: rubber for the outermost part of the camera to help the user grip the camera; yellow hard shiny plastic, to create a bright shiny object that would attract marine life; steel for the lenses; glass for the lens; and dense glass for the screen.

Maximiliano Acevedo week 9: scan model







For this project my team and I chose a foam model of a lock. The scanning process was interesting and fun. I ve never worked with a 3d scanning before, it was amazing . I find this tool very useful for future projects. I know we could have used it in a better way, but now that I know the way to use it it will be an amazing tool for the future, I am glad that SCAD has this tool for us. Fr the materials I chose steel and milled steel with some metallic colors, I think the convention of colors looks pretty good with steel.

Andrea Carriquiry: Week 10 Shoe





For the design of this shoe i wanted to make something i would love to buy for myself i wanted to create a very elegant and classy shoe that could be dressed up or dressed down. I was inspired mainly by three things. The first one, was myself and the way i love bows because they make everything elegant and girly. The second was the obvious red sole which was inspired by Christian Louboutin’s shoes which also have a red sole, and the third one was Blair Waldorf, one of the main characters in the tv show Gossip Girl and how her style is very classy and elegant, i also decided to use her last name as the name for this design because of its sophistication.

To create the model in rhino y created the curves using control points and rebuilding them, as well as using the sweep2 command to make the leather parts and fixed the trouble spots using BlendSrf. For the details i used pipes. For the bow i used two triangles and a square which i filleted  to look more rounded. For the logo on the back i projected and extruded the rectangle on the back of the shoe and used Boolean Difference for the letters.

The materials i chose were a light nude leather for the shoe, a gold metal for the pipes, the bow and the logo, so these would stand out but also they would look really good with the nude leather. I decided to go with a red material on the sole and insole to make the shoe more fun and to give it a pop of color.

Nick Tourville- Week 8 Chair



   The Deox chair design is based on DNA. It is a simplistic design meant to be used as a coffee table chair. The center cushion is removable and straps to the bottom of the chair.
   My modeling process began with drawing the curves of the frame and legs and manipulating the control points. I then used Grasshopper to pipe the curves. This process was then repeated for the cross bars. The cushion is a manipulated surface the was extruded and filleted.
   For materials, I knew I wanted a metallic body for the chair. After trying an entirely chrome body, I decided that black chrome for the frame and legs had a more accented look. The cushion has a custom red velvet texture.

Sarah Zambrana: Week 8 Chair




      I tried to think of a design that I would want to use while I'm in school.  In several of the studio classes that I take, they require some sketching for a few hours a day. So I thought it would be a good idea to make a chair that kept me comfortable while at the same time staying focused. The angle of the chair lets you lean back in a comfortable position and also the base of the chair is wide enough to where you could cross your legs and work.
     Aesthetically I wanted to keep things thin and simple with a geometric design. The legs of the chair are made out of black steel while the seat itself is made from a soft, cloudy plastic. I would say the tools that used the most for this project were blend surface, fillet edge, and boolean union. It was often difficult to blend the so many pipes together in a few spots, but I think I was able to blend them together pretty smoothly.

This is my lazy wood chair, it's made from wood leather and steel. I wanted to make a chair that was symmetrical as an outer form but asymmetrical with its supports. I used Pipes for the frame not because I wanted the user to get their limbs stuck in the chair but because I wanted a frame that was able to breathe because I am the type of person who gets hot easily. The cushions are made with leather because it's a good material that gets cold easily when indoors and always keeps me cool. The metal studs on the bottom are for people who like to scratch/ massage their feet while sitting. The design of the leg rest is made so that your legs are not too high or too low. personally when I have my legs up high I tend to fall asleep easily especially during a movie, but at the same time I want my legs up so I can relax. Having no head rest was on purpose because the user is now free to stretch his neck/head over the top of the frame to get a good stretch in the neck, my brother does this a lot so I am assuming other people do this as well.

Andrea Carriquiry: Week 8 Chair





For this design i wanted to make something very clean, simple and elegant. Very minimalistic but taking into consideration, style, comfort as well as the aesthetics. I wanted to economize the use of lines, in this case pipes, in order to make a very clean and classy design. I decided to add extra pipes to the back and under the cushion in order to make it more stable and sturdy. I wanted to do a bench instead of a chair so people could sit or lay down on it that's why i named it "The Lazy Way".

For the logo i used the tutorial from blackboard, and decided to use my initials. I made it a bright blue anodized metal, so it would stand out. 

I used curves to draw out the contours of the chair and then made them into pipes. Then i did the same with the support on the back and below the cushions. I boolean all the unions between these pipes to make clean and smooth unions. For the cushions i used a rectangle, which i altered through the control points to make it rounder, and also filleted the corners. Later i extruded the surface to create the cushion.

For materials i decided to go with stainless steel for the pipes, as it is a sturdy metal that will never rust, as well as a black leather for the cushions to give it a very classy and elegant look, so it could be easily placed in any living area, because of the neutral colors.

Andrea Young: Week 8 Chair





I was inspired by the french based company, EGO Paris. They have a very streamline look to their furniture. I transformed it by uses wood elements to incorporate more pipe details. The wood element give the chair a more natural appearance and it blends well within its environment.

The "Sweep 1" command was used to create the wooden plank elements on the side table and back rest. I used the "pipe" command to create the circular pip details.

I enjoyed enhancing the renders with details like a piped pillow and cocktail glass, simply reinforcing the idea of relaxation. Lounge-Sessel the premium in outdoor lounge chairs.

Avi Spratt Week 8: Stardust Diner Stool

I always feel like I'm in a spaceship when I go to diners, they're pretty damn cool. I wanted to make a stool that would fit in with the spacey style of most diners. I constructed this with mostly curves, then just used sweeps on the curves. I used the fillet edge tool to create the joinery of the piping, and did some light chamfering on the base. I'm proud how well the bolt that goes through the main supporting pipe intersects with the smaller aesthetic pipe. For materials I used steel for the piping, and a darker steel for the bolt, and the chair portion's piping. I used a modified dupoint texture to imitate vinyl on the seat cushion and the base of the stool.

Andres Poch: Week 8 Tubular Chair

To make this chair I wanted to create a chair composed by a single tube. Also I wanted to create a really comfortable chair that would look stylish. For this I created a steel frame that serves as a basis for the rubber tube to go around and create a great visual pattern. Since its rubber the chair can adapt to the person's weight and also adapt to the way thy are seating, creating a more comfortable chair. Another positive aspect of this chair is its ability to have a long usable life. Since the seating part is just tied into the frame it can be replaced when damaged.

In order to create this chair I used the following commands: first I created the framework with circles and extrusions, then I created a lines tangent to the circles to create the trail for the main sitting area, I then modified the 2D line to make it flow properly around the tubes, copied and pasted the line to create the whole seat, and finally, piped the line to create the rubber tube.

Sarah Zambrana: Week 7 Lamp











       When I first started this project, I had several ideas in mind of what kind of shape I wanted to use for the lamp. But after a bit, I became displeased with how complex my shapes were getting. In the end, I decided to stick with a very simple cylindrical shape as the base inspiration. I like the simplicity and the radial symmetry it has. The tools I used for this project were boolean union, boolean difference, extrude surface, contour, and polar array. What was most helpful for me was the polar array tool to create the multiple vertical boards.
       When finding the materials to use, I know from the start that I didn't want to use a light wood, or one that was too refined. So I decided to use the driftwood material. I appreciate the raw rough texture and the subtle, worn color it had. That's when I had the the idea to have the lamp be inspired by lake houses. Whenever vacationing at the lake, you can get the feeling of being outdoors while fishing or swimming at the dock, but at the same time there is always a house that you can go back to. And that s the feeling I got while working. So it's this combination of the outdoors with modern living that I think the lamp fairly represents.
