I designed these sunglasses with my youngest nephew in mind. I wanted to deviate from making them too girly. I came up with the brand name because they favor crickets.

After importing my sketches into Rhino, I drew curves onto them. I, then, did a series of extrusions, blends, sweep 2s, and lofts to achieve the completed look. Boolean union was my final step to seal the frames together.

These sunglasses are intended to be completely customizable.The materials that I used ranged from wooden to plastic, or even gemstone frames. The lens are all plastic. Your preppy Boy Scout will love these sunglasses!

My inspiration for these sunglasses lie in many places.  The lens shape from none other than Tom Ford.  I like the look of odd sunglasses, so I took inspiration from Chanel and Prada for the shape.  The time period I took design cues from would definitely be the 1960s.  I decided to make them a pair of hands that seem like they are presenting something precious for the wearer to look through.  I enjoyed the designing process, since these sunglasses are not what you typically see walking down the street.

I used several basic modeling techniques to get the final form.  For the lens I simply built off of a circle.  I made the loft curves in the side and top windows and lofted the dome shape.  The frames are an extruded polycurve that I split in half and then mirrored before rejoining to make them symmetrical.  All the edges where either chamfered or filleted.  I then used offset surface with solid selected to finish the one and mirror it to copy it.  The hands are a combination of piped curves and booleaned ellipsoids.  I would draw the curve in side view and then transform them to look like I wanted.  I then piped them and filleted the fingertips.  The ear hooks are also an extruded polycurve.  I then used boolean union to join all the solids.

When I rendered these I chose to go the practical route.  I chose black plastic for the hands because I want them to look almost silhouette-esque.  I chose a stark contrast form the frame color for that sole reason, I wanted contrast to emphasize the look that the hands are "presenting" them for the wearer.  The lens are orange because that color is bright and fits with the 1960s palette.  I added J-Lo as a model to show scale and give a better impression of the final product.

Rafael Kader: Week 5 Sunglasses

The main inspiration for this project was an Oakley Garage Rock sunglasses. As a result, the shape and the dimensions are pretty similar to the original model. Moreover, I tried to create something that I would use and that mix vintage and sportive characteristics.

To model it on Rhino, I started drawing curves over the images that I inserted there. After drawing those curves, I create planar surfaces and then I extrude it to create a solid. Also, I used a lot of Crv2View, FilletEdge, Project, MoveFace, Pipe and Split.

For the materials, I chose a hard black plastic for the body to make it look cool and light, and a clean and shiny blue plastic for the lens to contrast with the black body.

Laura Matteo: Week 5 - Glasses

      For the glasses I had the chance to model Kathrine Clark's Glasses. As you can see in the drawings, the glasses are meant to be for horse riding. I didn't understand the idea of the glasses after I modeled them. Kathrine explained me that the glasses were supposed to only cover the eyes (it is shown in the first drawings), they were not supposed to have a frame. I did them like this because I was confused by the drawings and I thought that it would go well with the market. 
     I modeled the glasses thinking of its functionality, I thought that horse riders will need glasses that would hold really well to their heads and that is why the frame is open so it fits behind the ears. Also, Kathrine designed the glasses so they could fold and snap. 
    When I started it on Rhino, I began by placing the pictures with the command Picture Frame, and then just trace the right side of the drawing with the Curve command. After tracing everything, I converted the curve into a PlanarCurve, Trim the curve, and then Extrude it to make it thick. To create the little holes, I just used cylinders and did a BooleanDifference. When I was done, I just mirrored the right side of the glasses. To create the object in the middle so it could fold, I just used to boxes and cut them with a diagonal cutplane.
      In KeyShot Iwanted to used brown and blue colors because I feel that they would look good with their outfit howevere all of the brown colors were too brights and I wanted the glasses to have a very edgy style. I decided to go for the black and grey color palette with some white edges.

Crysta Polvinale Week 5: USB Flash Drive



This duck was something I used for the rubber duck product, but in this one I changed a few things. The duck seemed to translate well into a USB when I used the metal plug in the place of a beak.I wanted this to be a fun flashdrive that someone would want to carry on their keychain.
The techniques were the same as the previous except I added some fillets on the plug. Started with basic spheres and shaped them into a duck. Boolean union and splits were integral to this model.
I wanted this to be modern but still fun so I used so greens and divorced form the traditional duck coloring.

Sarah Zambrana: Week 5 Sunglasses








     For this project, I wanted to make a pair of sunglasses that I own and then put a twist on them. I own a pair of black, round lens Ray Bans that I wear all the time. To change them I was inspired from the style in the recent movie The Great Gatsby. So, I reshaped the eye frames a little and then added some linear detail to be able to use more materials. I stuck with a black chrome for most of the metal frames, but then also added some brass plating to incorporate a 1930's feel from the movie.
     The tools I used most would probably be extrude curve, extrude surface, and fillet edge. To connect the individual pieces together I used the tools boolean union and boolean difference. I think that using multiple pictures as reference really helped in being able to accurately portray my ideas across.

For my glasses I drew inspiration from a couple different areas. Immediately when I thought of designing glasses I thought of Oakley and started looking through their extensive list of sunglasses. I set out to create a large profile sunglass for male teenagers from teens to twenties. I looked at different styles of Oakley's such as the Oil Rig, Style Switch, Big Taco, and the Jupiter line. The name and inspiration for these large profile glasses came from the planet Saturn. It is one of the largest planets in our solar system. The casual style of the glasses came from the fact the Saturday is named after Saturn so I wanted to bring in a little bit more of a casual, walk around, weekend feel to the product.

To create the glasses I used many different methods in Rhino. For the lens of the glasses I used curve to view commands to create the curved profile from side to side then I drew cross-section curves and patched the surface. After that I extruded and filleted the glasses. To create the front frames I used curve to view again along with patch and extrude. Then I boolean differenced the lenses from the frame to create and interchangeable lens. After that was done I used pipe and blend commands to fillet the surfaces. To create the stems I used curve to view, offset, blend and boolean commands along with fillets and chamfers. To create the hinges I used booleans, along with offsets to create hinges and housings. In the modeling there were 3 naked edges I was unable to join. I tried cap, join, join edge (which worked for several) and pipe and blend.

In Keyshot I chose to use mainly plastics to keep the objects light weight and durable. For all the plastics I played around with the material settings to take away the roughness and make a smoother surface. For the lenses I changed the advanced settings such as specular, and diffuse to create a colored transparent lens that had a glossy almost mirrored look. For the environment I worked with the stock environment and edited the hdr files so create a scene that would suite the glasses.

Nick Tourville- Week 5 Tune-Ups Glasses



      When first brainstorming for this design, I thought about the glasses I use. One of the pairs of glasses I wear most often are my SCAD Drumline shades, and from there I though about how they could be given extra function. When practicing with the Drumline, we commonly have the problem of needing a drum key but not having on with us at the practice field. So, I put a drum key on each side of this pair of the Tune-Ups shades. The key is as narrow and short as possible to both function but not get in the way.
       When constructing the Tune-Ups, I first set up and aligned my background bitmaps using Picture Frame. I then drew a curve around the lens, extruded it, and piped around it. I made a series of boxes matching the general size of the sides and then used Trim to get them to the right shape. The Bend tool came in handy for shaping the lens, frame, and sides. Attaching and detailing (around the screw and hinge) were done with Boolean Union and Difference.
       The main frame of the shades is chrome, the lenses are some glass tinted slightly blue, and the key and screws are aluminum. To create soft tips for the sides, I used a mold-tech. Finally, I used a soft touch material for the nose rests.
