Connor Mannina Week 10: Shoe

For my shoe I decided that I wanted to make a wrestling shoe. My inspiration came from a pair of my old wrestling shoes which were my favorite. I followed some of the elements like gold piping around the tongue and the vertical motion the Adidas stripes give the shoe. Even though the original shoes were Adidas I decided I wanted to make mine Nike to switch it up a bit. The bottom of the shoe has special tread to be super grippy. The tongue of the shoe also has a pocket for you to put your laces to keep them out of the way.   

Connor Mannina Week 10: Camera

When i was making this camera I wanted to give the face some complex geometry. I made the lens an oval to slightly distort the picture giving things fort of a fish eye effect. The camera is water proof and is supposed to be designed for some rugged situations. Overall it is a longer camera then most and has a very wide screen to encompass the elongated lens. 

Connor Mannina: Week 8 Tubular Chair

Then designing this chair my goal was to make a rocking chair. I wanted to make it very modern and unique as well as comfortable. I think my design is unique because normal rocking chairs have their rockers at a pretty parallel angle and mine not only taper to a point at the back but the rockers continue all the way up and around to create the frame for the chair too. The foot rests are supposed to be able to rotate and lock in a different position to lift your legs for added comfort. The piping is all black chrome and all of the material on the cushions is different colored leather. 

Connor Mannina: Week 7 Lamp

When I was creating this lamp I wanted to make as much light reflection and refraction as possible. I make my basic shape then added tons of triangular cut outs to let the light through in unique ways. I also decided I didn't want to put the cut outs together at 90 degree angles so I angled the cuts into my circular support pieces creating a windmill effect. I created this light to be a chandelier hanging from the ceiling but it could also be used as a lamp on a table or desk. The body pieces are a clear blue plastic to let light through and make the shadows it gives off colored.  

Connor Mannina: Week 6 Ring Model

I designed this to be a ring with the classic three stone face with the largest stone in the middle offset by two smaller stones on the side. I wanted to make the ring slightly more masculine and also give it a very modern look. After much deliberation I decided that I also wanted to challenge myself and somehow give the ring some kind of kinetic element. The ring is comprised of three major parts; the center band, the side bands with teeth, and the gears. The center band is connected to the side bands like a bearing. this allows all these pieces to move independently and rotate. There is a little knob on the bottom you can use to spin the gears. This causes the gears and stones to rotate in a fancy showcase kind of way. I purposely made the stone settings curved to have a barber pole effect while spinning. The main stone is Aquamarine, the two accompanying stones are Fire Opal, and the tiny stones going all the way around are diamonds. 

Connor Mannina Week 6 Sunglasses

                                   

When I designed these I wanted to give them kind of an Oakley look. I focused most of my attention on the arms and kept the lenses in a classical slightly rectangular fashion common in many Oakley models. These are supposed to be active lifestyle sunglasses. They are fashionably shaped for everyday use and comfort but at the same time support a more sporty architecture allowing them to stay in place during intensive movement. My color theme mimics Oakley Frogskins with the clear rims and gold lenses. For added comfort and grip some soft black plastic was added to the ends of the arms to helping the glasses to stay in place. The triangular cut out is purely aesthetic.

The Flashlight is metal with red plastic extrusions for extra grip. It also has a window breaker at the end making it the perfect flashlight for in the car. 

The duck is a bottle opener as well as a wine stopper. His teeth are metal to take the wear and tear of the bottle caps and the stopper portion is cork. Everything else is plastic.
