The Saturn Chair has a modern design. Its main influence came from classic rattan papasan chairs. I have always loved the flexibility of a papasan. You can sit in one in so many ways. For my design I wanted to use the same bowl shape seat, and pedestal base. I knew creating a basket out of pipes would be very uncomfortable. I decided to make concentric rings that contour the shape of the chair. With one small pillow at the base. For modeling I created the shape I wanted out of surfaces, then projected an array of curves onto it. The only other commands I used a lot were pipe and fillet, and trim and blend. trying to smooth the welds where the pipes met was very hard. To join most of them used a very small fillet. On the ones closest to the top and bottom I had to trim them back and blend.
In Keyshot I choose chrome for the main pipes. Since the design looked futuristic, and formal, I decided to sacrifice comfort for beauty. I used black silk for the seat, and a black paint for the internal part of the base. I bumped up the contrast a little bit, and went with a flat black backplate to emphasize the shiny glares.
