I wanted to create a tall, elegant design for this lamp project. I decided to make it as big as the wood sheet could hold it. I also wanted to make a different design which had an opening on one of the sides. I was inspired by the palm trees, and the opening has a movement which echoes the waves of the beach. I positioned the light in the middle so the hole would be enhanced.
I created my solid with a tube and trimmed the opening and the top so it wouldn't be flat. I used the contour and section command to make the curves to create the surfaces that defined my shape. I used the extrude command to make them thick for the rendering. I created the pipes and used the block command so that I can go back and edit the thickness depending on the material I chose or change.
For the renderings I chose a polished light oak for the lamp because I want to put it at my home and a light color of wood would look better. I also wanted to use wood because of the warmth it communicates.

Good work. I would add an additional circular cross section to the top so that you you have at least two notches running through each vertical section.
