Avi Spratt Week 10: NX310

I own a Samsung NX300 Camera, I love that it has a pocket-able form factor without a lens attached, and that it is like a DSLR in that you can attach a wide variety of different lenses depending on what sort of image is being captured. However, I do not like that there is no optical view finder, and that the user must rely on the digital view finder, which is hard to view outside because of glare.

For this model, I used blend surfaces for the thumb rest and the over-sized ergonomic grip. I built the body using curves and extrusions. I also used rebuild surfaces, and control points to manipulate the curvature and shape. I spent a few hours alone just filleting the thumb wheel, the ISO wheel, the focus ring, and the zoom ring.

For materials I used a leather pattern moldtech plastic for the outer trim, brushed aluminum for the body, rough black plastic for the back of the frame, lens, and on/off switch. I used a silver plastic for the thumb wheel, the record button, and the capture button.  For the rear buttons I used a darker silver plastic, and rubber for the viewfinder cushion, and focus/zoom rings.

Avi Spratt Week 5: Oculus Welding Glasses

I do a good amount of work in my shop at home, my one problem: safety glasses are really uncomfortable, and they have no style. I want to create a set of glasses that would look good, and be comfortable. I used picture frame to align my sketches to the XYZ planes, and scaled them appropriately. I used a lot of curve projections and splitting to achieve the overall shape, then I used boolean 2 objects to create the groove to hold the lens and the pin in the back. I used a combination of both chamfering and filleting as well. For materials I used Brass and copper for the frame, milled steel for the pin and nut, wood for the portion that would come in contact with ears, and tinted green glass for the tubes and the lenses

Avi Spratt Week 4: Detergent Bottle

For whatever reason, I only seem to have lavender detergent. I don't have any sort of preference, I buy whatever is cheapest to clean my clothes. I decided to make this model based on bottles I have at home, but with more curves. I used Offset curves, loft, rebuild, fillet edge, helix, and various boolean tools to create the bottle. I manipulated control points to further add definition to the bottle.  For materials I used Dupoint pink, purple haze, and pacific sunrise.

Avi Spratt: Week 3 Hammer

For my inspiration I looked at my Ace Rip Hammer, mine does not have the serrated/beveled strike face though. I used curves, lofting, and extrusions to create the hammer head. I used the rebuild tool and used control points to change the shape of the head as well as the handle. The edges that would be handled (Not the claw) are filleted. My hammer has sharp, straight edges on the claw section, so I left them alone on the model. For materials I used light oak for the handle, and a textured steel for the head. The nails are galvanized and the wooden plank is a heavy grained polished wood material.

Avi Spratt Week 3: Mouse

My inspiration for this mouse was based on various Razer Mice,  and my brother's illustration
I used curves, lofting, and control points to create the curvature of the mouse. FilletEdge was also used quite a bit. For materials I used rubber for the mouse body, and soft touch plastic for the scroll wheel and buttons.

Avi Spratt Week 2: Flashlight

My dad taught me to scuba dive when I was 15, I started out with all of his old gear, but have progressively replaced most of it, save for a dive light. Its a huge clunky, heavy, incandescent light that isn't very bright. I don't use it often, its not even very useful on night dives.  I wanted to create something that would be small enough to store inside a BC, that wouldn't get in the way, or weigh much. I used the helix tool to create the screw, and took advantages of transparent materials to show the threading.

Avi Spratt Week 2: Ducky

After completing the ducky, I decided to turn it into a toy tank because I thought it was ironic to mix children's toys with weapons. I used Dupoint for the body because it provided shine and a bit of sparkle as well. The tank barrel and tread are a lilac metal, the belt is rubber, and the wheels are galvanized steel.

Avi Spratt - Week 1 Castle

I wanted to mix rounded forms with harsh angular forms because I thought it would create interesting shadows.  I also wanted to experiment with  making an interior, the inside of the main building is hollowed out, and there is a doorway.

Overall, it was a lot of fun to experiment with Rhino.
