Christian McKenzie - Week 2: Duck tutorial


I took inspiration for this project from a designer named Mr. Clement (http://www.mrclement.com/gallery/sculpture/). The perfume bottles. After watching the Rhino thread making tutorial I thought if I put the threads in the center of the models head it would look like a brain and that the model would be an interesting shape for a bottle.

Rhino Techniques and tools used:
  1.  Rebuild (To add more AV curves and controls point to the solids)
  2. Transform (set xyz coordinates (to flatten the base and sides of the solids)
  3. Project
  4. split (to out the various sections)
  5. Offset surface (to generate the interior)
  6. orient on surface(for the wings and the eyes and curve on the helix)
  7. Helix (for the threads)
  8. rail sweep(for the dimension of the threads on the helix) 
  9. cap (to close poly surfaces into solids)
  10. 2d and 3d scale (to size the threads and insure the screw and cap were functional)
  11.  Blend surface (to merge the solids into poly surfaces)
Materials:

  1. Clear Rough textured plastic: wings, legs, eyes and cap. ( I wanted to have some various textures as I intended the majority of the surface to be translucent.
  2. Clear shiny: head and body
  3. leather: for the grip( the texture next to the shiny and rough plastic is a nice contrast and breaks up the  dominantly translucent surfaces)
  4. Shiny clouded plastic: beak and threads ( keeps a nice continuity to the surface rather than an abrupt opaque solid paint) 
  5. Wavy Glass: fluid (   it looks like a convincing fluid I increased the scale of the wave texture.)

Jamie So Whi Lim: Week 2 Ducky













This is a soap container. I chose to go for the soap container because duck relates to water and soap relates to water, also. I put some flowers around the ducks head to make it look like it smells good just because it is a container for soap. I used rebuild, and moved the control points around. I used bend and extrudecrv a lot. For material, I chose shiny plastic, hard plastic, and ruby for the eyes. 

Andres Poch: Week 2 Rubber Ducky

This speaker was inspired by one of the speakers that my sister used to own. Basically what the speaker does its that it transmits the sound waves from the bottom of the product through rubber onto any conductive layer, for example a table or a window. This wave transfer allows for the whole layer to become a speaker and produce sound. On the top of the product there are two heat sensitive buttons to adjust sound, and on the frontal part there's another heat sensor that turns the product on and off. Finally, in the right side, there are two plugs to connect the power source and the audio input.

The main commands that I used for this model were: project curves to make the bill and and the buttons, and pipe with boolean difference to create the rubber unions between the buttons and the plastic. and between the plastic.

Mackinley Farmer: Week 2 Ducky



I designed my duck to be a water pitcher. I wanted the design to be fun and whimsical. I used the Project Command quite a bit to connect the handle and such. The Trim Command also came in handy when removing unnecessary surfaces. I chose to make the body a yellow glass so that you could see the level of the water. For the lighting I wanted to make sure you could see the glass reflecting on the surface.

Since the beginning I wanted to conserve the childish spirit of the rubber duck. I did the tutorial and based my design on it. Some of the techniques I used was revolve to create the bow tie. I decided to use wood, because it is a simple natural design, that matches the color pencils.

Avi Spratt Week 2: Ducky

After completing the ducky, I decided to turn it into a toy tank because I thought it was ironic to mix children's toys with weapons. I used Dupoint for the body because it provided shine and a bit of sparkle as well. The tank barrel and tread are a lilac metal, the belt is rubber, and the wheels are galvanized steel.
