Andres Poch: Week 6 Rings

For the last couple of years my sister has been developing the brand Bliss jewelry around the world. The whole brand is design around the feeling of bliss, and has roots on ethnic designs, which lead to the naming of the jewels in different indigenous languages. Now she wants to expand her designs to be 3D printed, which will be part of her thesis project next year. So I took this project as a sort of audition to see if I was going to be able to help her next year with the modeling and rendering of her designs. The most interesting thing about this project was working collaboratively with my sister and modeling from designs that I didn't create.

In order to model these rings I imported the lines from Adobe Illustrator, the created a Planar Surface, Extruded the Surface, Filleted the edges, created a cylinder to wrap the design around, and finally, flowed the design along the surface. The most important part about this process was following the steps in the right order in order to not have naked edges. Also, I found it easier to work on a large scale and then scale down in order to obtain better filleted edges.

The material that is used in all of the designs is silver, since it's the main material she is using now. Nevertheless, when it comes to printing, they won't be done in silver but some kind of plastic material in order to broaden the market and also to respect the artistic quality of the jewelry that she is already producing with artisans in silver.

  1. your ghosted images are composed better than your final renderings on the page. additionally, your renderings could use some ambient occlusion to give them more form.
