For my USB drive, I followed the tutorial to make sure I got all the techniques right.
For modeling I used offset surface, loft, boolean two objects, trim, and extrude. Also, as directed in the tutorial, I did the curves based on the background image.
The
outer part of the USB is hard plastic. It is painted red because flash
drives are easily lost, so bright red will be easy to spot. The metallic parts
are all aluminum because it is lightweight and also because it has very
nice light properties for rendering. When the drive is connected to the
computer, the USB logo on the top part lights up to indicate that it is
being used.
