Sarah Zambrana: Week 6 Ring

With this design, I wanted to create something that I personally would like to have. I really admire organic, natural forms so I decided to model the ring from deer antlers. When looking up inspiration, I found some similar rings (http://www.etsy.com/searchq=antler%20ring&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US&ref=auto5 ), however the shapes used in them typically stayed close to one plane. The antlers in this ring reach out to imitate the exact curves and planes of real deer antlers.
The tools I used most for this project were the bend, loft, and circle along curve tools. It was challenging to try and make a surface that matched the natural movement and texture of antlers but also still maintained a smooth flow. The model shown is rendered from silver and bronze metals. The complexity of the materials were kept to a minimum to emphasize the shapes in the ring.
