Marcelo Torres Week 6: Ring

Rendered in passes

For this project, I wanted to create a ring design that was low-profile and unobtrusive. I wanted the ring to remind people of the ocean, or the beach in general. For this purpose, I added a wave design that goes around the ring. Also, I cut two holes through the ring that are supposed to represent the sun, which could be either setting or rising (that's why there is two of them).
For modeling, I did the ring shape by sweeping rails. Then, both the waves and the circles were done using a boolean difference. I then created a pipe a goes through the edges of the waves on the outer side of the ring.
The ring is all made out of wood, soft maple being the main material. The thinner, darker parts of the ring are dark wood. I chose these materials because I wanted to avoid making anything flashy or too striking; I rather wanted to create something more simple and pure.
