Benjamin Osborn - Week 10 - Shoe

For my shoe design I wanted to design a soccer cleat. A cleat that is a bit different.  In soccer the biggest problem with cleat design is what to do with the laces. Having a smooth surface is important so you can get consistent strikes.  I drew inspiration from Lotto's ZHERO GRAVITY cleat. It uses rubber and plastic to make a form fitting, and smooth upper. While they are hard to get on and of, it is one of my favorite cleats to wear.  (Lotto ZHERO GRAVITY)

While modeling it in Rhino, I first created the basic shape using lines and surfaces. I then used Project and split to pull apart the different levels. I used to offset surface to give depth, and used Boolean commands to add the actual cleats, and make sure everything fit together nicely. Small fillets and pipes were used to create texture and eliminate hard corners.

In Keyshot I wanted to add to the very flat shape. I used black and white silk to give slight texture to the upper. All of the red parts are the same red rubber. And the lower parts are contrasting black and white Plastics.  The lighting I used was one of the stock environments, with a bit of a contrast boost.
