I decided to stick to one of the tutorials but only as far as the steps go. The form for the bottle was meant to be elegant and flowing. The colors should underline this quality which is why the bottle is light gray as this brings the shapes out the best. The silver edges accentuate the form.
To fix your naked edges use join edges. If that doesn't work try to trim back that top surface and blend it back into the lower surface.
