Rhino Ghosted
Rhino Rendered
For this weeks assignment I chose to do a standard sized detergent bottle. I stuck with this simple, clean look because I enjoyed how recognizable the form can appear without any colors or labels on it. The aesthetics of the bottle itself are very familiar and the offset surface that gives platform for the label is what makes it so easily placed in the audience's household.
For this model I used sweep commands to create the basic shape of the bottle. From there I cut out the handle by extruding a curve and using the split command. I then rounded the edges of the handle using surface blend. For the offset surface for the label, I first offset the curves that made up the surface I wanted to break off of. Turned those curves into a surface, and then offset that surface to set inside of the original outer bottle surface. From there is was a variation of blended surface and sweeps to get the fillet I wanted. Then I loft the bottom of the bottle, always filleting of course. And finally I threaded the top using the tutorial provided and Boolean differenced out a lid. I will say that the bottle itself is a single surface and has no wall thickness because I let Rhino try to offset the whole surfaces for 2 hours before I finally gave up. But later I tried offsetting the surfaces again and found that when the servers were working faster during the day it could offset all the desired surfaces. So the item you see now is whole. And yes, I have included it to hold liquid as you can see in the ghosted rhino picture.
