Melissa Shuford: Week 1 Castle

My idea for the castle was originally just a basic castle but as I realized the ease in which rhino allows the user to manipulate shapes and form I decided to go for a fantasy style inspired by this page. As I was building I realized that I could get a lot of natural lighting through ornate but yet simplistic window designs which worked well with the fantasy I was going for.

The modeling techniques I used were ExtrudeCrv, BooleanDifference, CurveBoolean, Rotate, line, Box, Circle, ellipse, and cone among other things. I was surprised by how easy the program is to get accustomed to and allowed me to create what I wanted without having to fight with the program.

For materials I used Marble White for the main body and tower of the castle as it worked well with the regal castle form. For the two towers on either side of the main tower I chose mahogany to disallow for the marble to overwhelm the senses. I then chose to do the pillars in black walnut with a grey and a clear glass accent on each. For the roof I chose to go with the gem-like wavy blue glass so it would catch the light and bring in a fantasy sparkle to the castle. The fountain in front was then made of amethyst to appear almost if there is water there. Lastly the ground was done in thinfilm soap bubble for the magical rainbow effect as well as to bring the fantasy back into the castle.
