Lewis Hunt : Week 4 Detergent Bottle

Cap Off

Cap On

For my detergent bottle I wanted to create a form that would be easier to pour detergent out of.  I went with this shape because the bottle is now at a closer angle to where you need it to be when pouring.  A large handle also helps you adjust where you put your hand so you can have more or less leverage when necessary.
For my process I started with four simple curves.  Once I had the shape I wanted I network surfaced the four curves and got the form.  I then lofted three curves for the handle and offset the surface on the front to add more variety to the form.  For the cap I used a helix and attached the shape I wanted perpendicular to this.  I swept the surface and trimmed and filleted the edges to give it a smooth finish.  I then used boolean difference on the cap and used array polar on a cylinder to give the cap its ridges.
For the materials I chose to use hard plastic.  I went with colors that were bright so the bottle could be recognized easily.  I also wanted the bottle to not be mistaken for anything other than detergent so that is why I chose the color scheme.
