Meghan Preiss : Sunglasses : Week 5

For my sunglasses I wanted to create something really geometric. I wanted to keep everything square and sharp. I created holes in the sides of the glasses and two inlets on each side of the front lens to further the idea of geometric glasses. I also kept the glasses squared to the front because I figured if they were rounded they would take away from my overall theme. I was debating on making the nose bridge straight but I figured that would not be comfortable.

To create my sunglasses I created solids for the front and then boolean differenced then went back and added another solid to create the actual lens. For the handles of the glasses I created two curves and then sweep2. I boolean differenced the holes on the side and the front. I created the nose bridge by also creating two curves and sweep2. I filleted all the edges with small fillets to keep the square shape.

For my material I chose wood and hard rough plastics. I chose the wood planks and expanded the size because I really enjoyed the textured look of it. I chose a hard rough beige plastic to contrast the dark wood. For the other sunglasses I chose oak and again expanded the size to create a more textured look. For this pair I chose a hard rough black plastic. The inlets I chose a hard rough electric blue to add a pop of color in each. I angled each wood material because the straight up and down paneling was boring.
