Marcelo Torres Week 8: Chair

My design idea for this project was creating a modern chair with an organic and minimalistic look to it. I also wanted to go a little further and make the chair useful in some other way while still keeping it simple. For this purpose, I used the base of the chair as an open area where books and stuff can be placed in. The tube that goes around the chair keeps the books from sliding off the chair.
For modeling, I used curves from which I got the outline or silhouette of the chair. Then, I used sweep 1 rail to get the surface for the wooden part. After that, I offseted that surface and made it into a solid. I then created a closed pipe around that solid, which is the tube that is the supporting structure of the chair. For the books, I created solid rectangles and then used used fillets and surface offsetting to create the shapes of the books.
For materials, I used light oak for the body and brushed stainless steel for the tube. I think this combination works very well for that simple yet modern look I was looking for.
