Nathan Beck: Week 6 Ring

I wanted a ring that was organically and naturally inspired. I was in awe of coral reefs. I loved how the shape appeared to grow on you. The creatures that grow on and form are called polyps. I named my ring polyp, because I wanted to ring to "grow " on the wearer I wanted their to be a hierarchy in the size and shapes of the forms. I centered the design around a larger, taller form and gradually decreased in size and form.

I used the offset tool to create the part that wraps around your finger. To create the polyps, I took a cone, filleted the edges, boolean differenced a sphere and then filleted the interior edge. I also usd toruses and spheres. I stretched and bent all the shapes to make them more dynamic and organic. I bend references the creatures beings under water.

The material is a glossy plastic. I didn't want to take the ring too seriously, nor do I like how metal appears in Keyshot. In real life, it would be cool to have it made out of a bronze or copper metal. I increased the lighting and constast to make the curvatures gloss and pop.
