For this project, we were assigned another persons work to model. I took the original drawings and slightly modified them so that the glasses would work functionally. I kept the overall organic shapes and elegant curves that were intended. Lydia Batchelder was the artist of the original drawings.
To make the glasses I scanned my drawings and using PictureFrame on rhino, placed the files. I drew the curves using the curved line tool. I then extruded the curves to the desired depth. I filleted edges and chamfered the edges when needed. I mirrored the pieces when there were finished and joined them. I had to scale the arms of the glasses down a bit to make the proportions correct and functional.
For materials I used a champagne colored plastic for the frames, and a mahogany wood for the arms. The colors balance one another and make a clean and classic look. There is just enough elegance with these colors without being loud. The oracles are glasses for people who want to be different and stylish.
