Jon Broadfoot elds205 Winter2014 Ring
When thinking about designing my ring I wanted to go with something that was really detailed and a little bit bigger in size. I chose to design it with a Mayan feel to it. I really enjoy old Mayan art work and old Mayan Symbols. So with this ring I wanted to employ some Mayan symbols and a part of a Mayan art work. The details along the top and bottom are old Mayan symbols and the details in the middle of the ring were from Mayan artwork.
In Designing this ring I used a lot of commands that I have already employed in multiple other pieces and a new command in which I just learned. To get the detail in the top and bottom I drew the detail in curves, then projected those curve on the solid. Split the whole and extruded the surfaces. Then I difference out the pattern and filleted the edges. For the center detail I used the flow along surface command the BooleanUnion half and BooleanDifference the other half.I also tried a different way of rendering with one of my renders. I employed Passes on my second render, that's why it looks different from the first one.
As far as my material choice goes, I wanted to make a ring that would be snazzy. I really enjoy the metal combination of silver and gold so I chose to use those materials. Those materials are also precious metals and make everything look better. All in all I am happy with how my ring turned out and I would love to have this in the real material.
