Grant Hoskins designed these glasses. With a blind pull from a box, i picked these drawings to model in rhino. They were a unique challenge for 3-D modelling.
I started this project by simply tracing the curves of the front. After that i draw a line the would be the angles shape of the front of the glasses and lens and used the crv2view command to put the lines i had drawn onto the correct curvature. The ear pieces were made with two rails, a cross section curve and 3 sweep2's. The holes in the lens and the frame were drawn, projected and trimmed out.
I used white dense glass for the lens, a simple and clear choice. The ear pieces and nose piece were made of a hard, black plastic. Grant named them "Blackhawk" so i had to throw some black in there. The plastic was chosen simply because it looked like an Oakley sun glass material. Finally the lens hold was made from Hot Poppy_745633. I still have no idea what that means, but the black and red worked well together for the render.
