Jessica Demasis: Week 4 USB

For my Flash Drive design I wanted something very practical, but also stylish. Something that would look good hanging of your backpack and be easy to use and carry around. Everything from the shape of grip to the divots on the surface was intended to make it more comfortable to grab and simple to pull out of the computer. The curved edges also give it a more intriguing figure, as well as the materials chosen. Aside from the main design I also created a cap for it and a ring on the back so that it can be hooked to a key ring and carried around.

I used project and extrude curves a lot to get many of the shapes above. The grip I made by splitting those shapes out of the body. The shorter ones were simply copy's of those shaped that were made smaller. this made it much simpler allowing me to just Boolean difference out cylinders of the larger shapes to get that pattern. The divots I made with spears and Boolean difference. After all was made I filleted everything out to the best of my ability.

For the materials I really wanted to snaz it up. Its the kind of product that you have clipped to either a bag or key chain at all times so I wanted it to be a decorative piece also. I used a type of glass to represent what would actually be a jewel of some sort and I used gold and silver for a lot of the body and detailing. I also used a texture I found on part of the body  to give it more personality! The grip I made out of rubber for practical reasons and the cap is a see through black plastic.
