Jon Broadfoot Winter2014 elsd205 Sunglasses
I designed these glasses in particular because I randomly picked these out of a box in class. I did my very best to model them just how they were drawn given the drawings above. I feel as if I did a very close job the only things that I had to slightly modify to make them work for me were the thickness of the actual arms and the proportions of the frames. Once I did that the whole model came together smoothly.
When designing these sunglasses I used a couple new commands that I learned in the past week. The first one being Crv2View. I used this command when I had the outlined curves from the front view drawings and I wanted to project them onto a curve so that the sunglasses would have the typical bend shape to them so they will form around your face. I also use a series of commands to help me fillet my edges when the Fillet Edge command was not working. This series goes as followed: First you pipe the curve that you want to fillet to the desired dimension, Then you difference the pipe from the surface, and finally you blend those surfaces back together and you have your filleted edge.
When I pulled my design into keyshot to render it I had a little bit of an idea of what materials I wanted to use. I wanted to go with a hard plastic material as most sunglasses are already made of. I made the lens's a standard black glass so that they would have a tint on them. I also chose tho color combination that I did because I think they look pretty sleek and stylish.
