Kathrine Clark: Week 4 Detergent Bottle

Week 4 Project

Detergent Bottle

For the Detergent Bottle project, it was my goal to design minimalistic packaging that would serve to highlight the contents and not be distracting. Another objective was to produce clean lines that would restate the message of the product itself.

This bottle is a comprehensive example of everything I have learned thus far. The mirrored form itself was later offset to provide the dual interior. Since I was not able to get rid of a few of the naked edges, it needed a built-in container to hold the liquid. Copied torus solids are arrayed within the detergent however they are faint due to layering. The bottom too was offset, raised and blended to the surface edges. I experimented with the helix to make the threads on the caps and spout of the plastic jug.

Predominately transparent materials were utilized (bottle, spout, caps, label and the detergent solution itself) for the vessel; they encapsulate the “Clean & Pure” image and present the product with clarity.  I used opaque, bright, glossy cyan plastic on the threads to add interest around the clear neck and cap. To indicate viscosity, I suspended torus solids throughout the liquid for authentication.
