Week 5: Mia Riefkohl Flash Drive

Flash Stash

I followed the tutorial to model this flash drive, starting with a photograph on the Front View port background as guideline. The photograph was the reference to draw all the curves. The curves where draw using the basic shapes of the flash drive: rectangles, ovals and arcs. Once these were drawn out, the job was to extrude curves into surfaces. Then join them and fillet all edges for a smooth, clean finish.
The design is based on a classic, typical USB drive. It is meant to be practical and useful. There was not much room to alternate the basic design, but the artistic freedom was in the materials and color pallette.
The materials chosen where meant to portray elegance and maintain the modern, technological feel. Of course metal for the face of the flash drive. The body is in a classic gold color to go with the strong edges, but also sooth the rough appearance.
