Jordan Synnestvedt - Week 8 Chair

In my house, there is a breakfast bar area that is in need of some nice high chairs. I initially designed this chair to fit the modern, organic style in the dining room and kitchen in my house. I thought about the other uses of this breakfast bar area and thought of how often we use it to do homework. This led me to construct a matching leg rest, made for kicking back and relaxing with a good book.

First, here is a ghosted view of my model in Rhino, showing that I have no naked edges. This shows the general structure of my design.

Here is a KeyShot rendered view of my chair and leg rest with a perspective 2D view, as well as my logo. I decided to use a steel material for the frame of my pieces, and a black leather material for the seat, back rest, and leg rest to fit the style of the kitchen in my home.

This is another view of my chair and leg rest, this time showing the top, side, and front 2D views - each view includes the general measurements of the piece in inches. Here you can also see the logo that I designed for myself.

I played around with some material application in KeyShot, and came up with some of these alternate solutions.

Here I chose brass and chrome materials for the structure of my chair, and clear tinted shiny plastic for the seat, the back rest, and the leg rest. Although this wouldn't be the most comfortable chair, it looks cool!

For this solution, I chose a light oak wood for the structure, and a stretched nylon fabric for the seat, back rest, and leg rest.

Lastly, I played with different types of the same material to achieve different looks. For all three of these chairs I used a steel material for the frame. For the teal chair, I chose to use a hard shiny plastic for the surfaces. For the yellow, I picked a clear yellow plastic. Lastly, for the orange I selected a hard rough plastic. Each of these materials make for a completely different look for my model.
