Jessica Demasis Week 3: Hammer

For my hammer I was inspired by the medieval style. I looked at a lot of different hammers but the ones I found under medieval were so gorgeous and so much more interesting to look at. I wanted to include a lot of these interesting qualities into my own hammer and make it something beautiful to look at as well as useful.
I started this project out by drawing shapes I would latter revolve or extrude. After extruded, the back of the hammer head was chamfered. However in the end it didn’t work well, it disconnected some of the surfaces slightly and I didn’t notice until it was too late. For the grip design I projected the Xs I drew onto the surface, I then piped them and boolean difference them out. After everything was made I filleted everything out to the best of my ability.
For the materials I wanted to choose ones that where more elegant and interesting. I ended up using a white sort of stone for the hammer head and a dark wood for the pole to contrast it. For the grip I chose a dark red leather and added a rough brass to all the details.
