Mia Riefkohl Week2 Pato Ring

When Prof. Scott told the class we had to create a product out of a rubber ducky, I was not very excited. Of course, this is the job of an industrial designer, but I couldn't imagine wanting a product from a rubber duck. Then I thought of a simpler approach; jewelry. I love jewelry and I believe you can make anything wearable. This made me excited to model a ring that could be amusing yet elegant and simple.
To model the organic shape of the duck I started with a sphere, rebuild it to add more control points and then shaped it to make the duck's body. The same approach was taken for the duck's head. Then, I joined the head and the body with Sweep 2 rail command. Once the ducky was finished, the ring was done starting with a circle, then offset. I extruded both circles to create a solid and later fillet all edges. Finally, I placed the ducky in the top, center part of the ring and Boolean joined them together.
To choose the material, I only had one thing in mind and that was to keep the elegant simplicity the ring had, so a chose gold. Gold is a timeless material that has been worn by both men and woman for centuries and is said to symbolize balance and perfection. These qualities accurately describe the approach I was going for the "Pato Ring".
