Brett LaCour: week 6 Ring

My inspiration for my ring comes from my home town, New Orleans.  The Fleur-De-Lis is an iconic symbol of my city so I figured I would try to implement it into my design.  In doing research I rarely saw an engraved style ring with the fleur-de-lis so I attempted to try and break the cycle and do something simple but a little different.
In order to create the ring, I created a tube to the size I wanted to print.  Then, I unrolled the surface.  After live tracing a fleur de lis in illustrator I exported the paths into rhino then extruded them on to the unrolled surface.  Then I executed the "flow along surface command" to project the extrusions onto the ring surface.  I was unsuccessful boolean differencing the whole ring, but I was able to execute the boolean 2 objects command to reach the result I desired.  I attempted to render in passes altering different levels for both renderings.  I like the flexibility that is involved with rendering in passes.
As for materials I chose 24 karat gold because it was the closest resembling material to gold plated brass which is the material I would like to print in from shape ways.  Hopeful this may result in a good present, and overall the model was fun to create .
