Julia Ponce: Week 5 Sunglasses

For the sunglasses project I had to bring to life the RoboCop glasses by Yi Wang. Making the glasses was really challenging.  Creating the surface that the lenses needed was really complicated because of all the angles the lens has; however I’m really content and pleased with the final design.I redesigned some parts of the Robocop glasses; some of the parts in the original design were giving me difficulties when it came to the part of joining the object together.

For the modeling techniques in this design I decided to work on one side of the glasses. There I mirrored the image so the two sides came up identical. Building the surface of the lens I decided to sweep2 and also used some loft in certain areas, when finishing the front part of the lens I offset surface, to give it the thickness. For the back part of the glasses I made a curve following the drawing, then I Crv2view to create the roundness of the head, next I extrude the curve to give it thickness; finally I sweep2 to create that smooth surface. Filleting the edges was the most problematic part of the entire design, I tired with the minimum number, and even with the smallest it gave me problems.

I researched to find and get to know what materials should I use to create the glasses.  I noticed that the Robocop glasses were really dark and with some materials that could protect and also be durable when wearing them. That why I decided to go with the transparent plastic for the lens, some aluminum and finally for the back part of the design I used a soft black plastic, not only to be durable, but to be comfortable while wearing the Robocop glasses.
