Jace McDill Week 7: Revolver Ring

For those men out there that think wearing rings are for losers, there is the Revolver Ring. Crafted from the same metal and a Smith & Wesson 45. cal magnum revolver, this ring is sure to blow away all the haters. It features all of the details commonly found on the revolving cartridge including 45. cal engraved into the body.

This build was fairly simple to execute. I created a tube, then drew a bullet shaped curve and revolved it to create the piece to boolean difference the inset sections. Filleting then came into play to create smooth edges so the ring can easily be taken on and off. Making the 45. cal into the body was somewhat annoying because filleting all of the edges involved was tedious and naked edges were a problem. In the end i was able to pull of what i was going for.

The material choice was simple, i used rough aluminum because that is what handguns are commonly made from and I slightly altered the roughness to make it look more like that of a revolver. Rendering in passes was also interesting. The first image came out much better that the ants eye view for some reason. I used a beauty, occlusion, and then a rough specular pass for each of the renderings.
