This week was a lot of fun. The class had to design kites to be flown on the last day of class. I chose to go with a Delta kite with no tail. My inspiration for this kite came from the B2 Stealth Bomber, the shape and colors are very similar.
The materials I used for this project were fairly common and simple. The main kite material is a plastic table cloth framed by 4ft wooden dowels and held together with duct tape. I then placed a grommet on the keel of the kite to attach the string and prevent tearing. The string itself is masonry sting that was picked up at Home-Depot.
The overall construction time of this kite took about two and a half hours. Now that I know how to successfully build a delta kite I'm certain next time around would go more smoothly and within a timely manner. One thing I know I would like to change next time I build a kite is instead of using duct tape to hold it together I would like to use strips of the table cloth with rubber cement as the adhesive. This would result in a much lighter construction.
