Parker Williams: Ring

Naked Edges

Close Up

For my ring project, I chose to take time to think about something I could make for my sister that she would absolutely love, using colors that were not to much too girly, but nothing that was to masculine by creating my specualar pass out of anodized metal. I satrted the creation of my ring by extruding two cyllenders and boolean differencing them out to fit the 17.3 mm format that a size 7 (sister's size) ring would be able to fit onto. After that, I filleted my edges so I could see where to start without having to worry about stuff falling off of the edges as I progressed in my designing of the ring. The ribs at the top and spheres that I set 3/4 the way into the top of the ring and them trimed them to give it a ribbing effect.
For the wholes all arround, I made a series of 6 rectangles and used  array pollar with 20 items at 360 degress then boolean differenced them out them projected the MW across a similar surface then moved it back into its hole. I then made it 2d expand upwards and trimmed out the extra parts to make it look like it is connected for no naked edges then capped them to finish this process off. Curv2view was also used to try and wrap the text tool around the ring but it wasn't as succcessful as project.
Rendering was done the right way and in photoshop. I created all three of my passes, specular, diffuse, and occlusion to give it the most realalistic effect. Unfortunently, I didn't find it to be to overdramtic and helpful but it was interesting to learn. I don't know if I was just doing it wrong or what, but changing the opacity for me wasn't doing to much. The color is adonized black found in the metal catagory, and instead of used an atmoshphere, I got my lighting the way I wanted it in the different passes an then set my ring with a dark grey backgroubnd color to make it pop.
