The Fresh Shake Ring is inspired by the idea of incorporating a hand sanitizer into a wearable accessory, so the user no longer needs to be concerned with the cleanliness of their hands. The ring could potentially be filled with a disinfectant solution, or alternatively perfume if the user is a smoker and wishes to avoid having their hands smell of tobacco. The emblem on the surface of the ring is made of glass (could be replaced with transparent plastic to be more economical) and allows the user to see how much of the contained fluid remains. The edges of the ring contain pipes that will keep the liquid/ gas at high pressure in these areas. I extruded holes in the pipes in 20 degree increments, these holes serve as automatic diffusers so the santizing agent is sprayed across the palm, hand back and fingers. Ideally I imagine the ring to work best when worn on the middle finger. This type of accessory could also be used by people who work in hygiene oriented professions; ie. doctors, caterers, preschool education, forensics, etc.
I used the dimensions of my finger to create an inner curve, then created a curve directly overlaying that one so I could easily manipulate the interior portion. I then piped the extremities before adding an exterior curve. I used a polar arrayed, extruded cylinder to make through-and-through holes in the pipes. I used the central part of the emblem to split the intersecting cuboid and the exterior curve to split the whole form so the liquid inside the ring is visible. I filleted the edges of the emblem. Other commands I used include booleanunion, make2D, extrudecrv, split and booleandifference.
The first image is rendered in passes. Since my ring is made primarily of plastic and glass I played around with different materials rather than the ones advised for the more metalic rings. I still used a diffusion pass made of white plastic and specular pass with metals painted black, but they did little to affect my textures. The third pass I used that I found most affective was one made entirely of glass. This created reflections and highlights I found more appropriate.
