Meghan Preiss : Lamp

The inspiration for my lamp came from a baby octopus. I wanted to create a hanging lamp what was wider at the top then tapered in a little bit then have legs come out the bottom. During the process of designing my lamp I decided that I wanted the front to give off more light, therefore I deleted one of the eight legs to create an opening. My lamp can also sit on a flat surface either on its legs or with the legs on top creating more variety.

To create my lamp I started by creating a curve and then revolving it. I used the line tool to create the lines I wanted. I then used surface planar curves to create the planes. I used both scripts provided. I had to edit the unrolled version by using mirror and trim. I used booleandifference to create the seven circular holes on the top. I also added a minor detail of my name to one leg.

I decided to use wood for my lamp because I wanted to create something that would last. For my keyshot model I used a black paint to see if I would like the idea of a painted lamp. When deciding on colors I chose a medium shiny gray and a matte black. I chose these colors because they are the colors of my brothers room and I want to give him this lamp.
