For my lamp I was inspired by the human scull.  It is something that is a very unique shape and we all can recognize very well.  I decided to make fifteen ribs so the shape of the face could be represented accurately.
For the build I started with the human head shape.  I then used contour to create the horizontal ribs.  For the vertical ribs I used section and split it up into four pieces.  I had all of the surfaces and then cut out the slots so the pieces would fit together perfectly.  For my render I extruded the surfaces to 1/4 inch so they would appear the same width as the actual wood.
For the materials on my actual piece I chose to use MDF wood.  For the light I used a simple candlestick base with a calm light.  I also placed a piece of paper around the center to disperse the light evenly throughout the piece.
