John Sibert week 3: Hammer
The design intent for my hammer project was to model a real life tool from a reference image and attempt to replicate it as accurately as possible. I chose to model the Grivel Monte Bianco Ice Axe as it looked like a challenging object, and I liked the design.
The modeling process began using a background bit map for reference. I mainly used curves to build the complex shapes, but I also used boolean 2 objects heavily. For other areas I used the sweep 2 command and lots of chamfer edge and fillet edge to achieve the realistic look.
For my Keyshot rendering I decided to use textured wood and metal. I chose a wood texture with a heavy grain texture bitmap to simulate the real feel of wood and a rough texture on the metal to make it look cast and treated in the same way as my reference.
