Grant Hoskins: Week 2 Duck

Grant Hoskins Winter 2014 ELDS 205 Duck

I created a wine stopper duck in Rhino. I was thinking of products that would work well with the shape of a duck. And then I realized that I wanted a glass of wine, which brought me to the idea of a wine stopper. I looked up pictures of stoppers and got some inspiration on what I wanted to do. I think it turned out pretty well.

I started the model by creating two spheres, one for the body and one for the head. I then rebuilt the geometry and shaped it to look like a duck. To make the neck, I used the blend command. The wine stopper is made of a truncated cone, regular cone and several torus. The torus were scaled down according to where they were on the stopper.

I wanted to keep the duck stopper mostly glass and shiny metal. For the duck body I used cubed glass. The stopper cone is made of a polished nickel. Because I’m fancy like that. Lastly, the rubber rings on the stopper are a rubber/plastic material that I found in Keyshot. I am really happy with the way the materials turned out on the duck.
