Paige Roche-Week 2: Duck & Flashlight
The idea of the 'Quackpot' is the same idea of a tea pot. In Rhino, I started off with a circle and expanded it's shape into a teapot form. The Quackpot is very simple and accessible. There is a removable lid where you enter your tea into the triangular dish inside. You let that sit and condense then when ready to pour, you grab the handle and the tea will go through the duck's mouth into the cup. I extended the bottom part of the mouth so the tea pours very nicely with hopefully no dripping.
In Rhino, I used the boolean union command with the head, the neck, and body. If there were any improvements I could make, I would only boolean union the neck and body to add more variety but I am still glad with how it all came out. In Keyshot, for the eyes and knob of lid I used the Glass Ridges Black filter, for the body/head/neck I used Glass Refractive Grey filter, for the handle I used the Paint Gloss Jet Black filter, and for the lid I used Glass Refractive Black filter. Also, as you can see in the 3rd image, I could not figure out how to connect a few of the edges.
I had a lot of fun with this project. I personally enjoy tea very much so when brainstorming what products to transform my duck into, I thought about what kind of products I enjoy and tea came to mind! I think it's important to think about your audience when you are creating products. Who would be interested in your product? Where would your product sell? etc, etc. Many ideas grew from my 'Quackpot' which I hope to expand off with in the future.
I wanted my flashlight to have a sleek professional feel to it. I specifically wanted the middle of the flashlight to be clear to give it some depth. This flashlight features a great sense of repetition and unity. I am pleased with how my design turned out and learned many useful steps while creating it.
In Rhino, I tried to design my flashlight without using the reference bar which was impossible so I started over using it the second time which went more smoothly. I used the curve and piping effects which gave my flashlight some embellished features. I moved the head of my flashlight a bit bigger than the entire shaft which gives it some dimension also to fit the requirements exactly.
In Keyshot, I wanted my flashlight to have a simple sleek look to it which is why I chose all monochromatic colors. I chose platinum polished for the base of the flashlight and accented it with black paint gloss and matte. The middle of the flashlight is glass basic grey. I feel that I reached my outcome for my flashlight, which I am very happy about.
