Nathan Beck: Week 3 Hammer

I wanted to create a sleek and modern hammer. For a few consecutive summers, I re-roofed houses with an organization that improved lives. I soon found out that I had to invest in a good hammer. It need to be light weight, but durable. Elongated, but manageable. And of course it needed to stand out against the rest of the workers hammers. I formed my hammer out of this experience.

In creating my hammer, I used a truncated cone to form the head, curves that were extruded to form the back of the head and handle, and mirroring ellipses to add grip. I Boolean Differenced the holes so I could hung up at the end of the day and also some towards the top of the handle to magnetically hold nails.

The materials were chosen with intention. The handle being lightweight aluminum and the head stainless steal. The rubber grip on the handle makes it easy to hold on to while also adding contrast to the metal. I color green stood out and would make it easy to see amongst the other hammers.
