Grant Hoskins: Week 3 Hammer

Grant Hoskins Winter 2014 ELDS205 Hammer

I got inspiration for this hammer from several different things. I looked up example toy hammers online, which was a great help, and I also drew from memory of my toy tools from when I was growing up. I added a ring to attach the hammer to a chain of other toys, possibly in the same line of products. I think the form works very well for a toy and I am happy with how this turned out.

I started off by following the hammer tutorial provided in the Rhino manual. Once I had the basic form down, I went in and added details. The grips on the handle are curves projected onto a surface and piped. The ring is made of a torus. I added my logo using the text solid tool and moving the letters so that they matched up. I am getting the hang of using these methods in Rhino and this went very smoothly.

I rendered this hammer with several different colors of materials in Keyshot. The whole hammer is plastic. Based on inspirational pictures that I found on the internet, I came up with a color scheme that I feel is very childish. The handle of the hammer is the only clear material. I think that this clear plastic adds to the aesthetics of the product.
